People First in action: Speedy Work Life Balance rolls out company-wide!

Back in April 2022 we embarked on an industry-first flexible working trial. Fast forward three years and we’re incredibly proud to have completed the roll-out of our Speedy Work Life Balance programme to all eligible colleagues!

Speedy Hire is a complex business and so it’s not been an easy process. There have been many hurdles along the way, but in true Speedy style we rose to the challenge!  

As of March 2025, every eligible colleague has been offered the chance to join this unique, trail-blazing programme. This marks an exciting milestone in our People First journey - reducing core contracted hours, supporting colleague wellbeing and helping us find more balanced ways of working. 

To make the achievement even better, our hard-working project team brought things full circle by winning the Innovative Value in Action Award at this year’s People First Awards! A well-deserved recognition of the positive impact Speedy Work Life Balance is having on colleagues’ work-life balance and wellbeing. 

Speedy Work Life Balance Highlights

From a feasibility trial in Newport NSC in April 2022, to a completed roll-out to all eligible colleagues in March 2025, it’s been a long journey for our teams involved!

All colleagues opted in now work 42 hours or less

Reduction of 144 working hours

Average reduction of 144 working hours per year per colleague!

Reduced by 30.32%

Throughout the roll-out of SWLB our voluntary attrition rate has reduced by 30.32%, with an average attrition rate of 15.4%
