Speedy Hire, a recognised UK leader in sustainability, has launched its new Carbon Intelligence Service, backed by PAS2080:2023, aimed at decarbonising its customers’ projects, by going far beyond its existing emissions calculator.

The industry-first service provides a strategic, data-rich service that continuously evolves to provide the most relevant and comprehensive insights. It identifies performance trends, pinpoints emissions hotspots, and highlights opportunities for meaningful carbon reductions, benchmarking against thousands of products to guide smarter, more sustainable choices, becoming a tool that is a strategic enabler for Speedy Hire’s customers’ to achieve their net zero journeys.

As the first and only PAS 2080-verified offering of its kind, the service goes beyond simply providing low-carbon alternatives. It combines three key pillars that deliver:

  • Validated data and robust reporting
  • Continual improvement and performance measurement
  • Strategic guidance to empower customers to choose sustainable tool options

PAS2080:2023 is the globally recognised standard for managing carbon in infrastructure and the built environment. Through organisations like the Construction Leadership Council, more asset owners are adopting this standard to decarbonise their sectors. By launching this new service, Speedy Hire is enabling its customers to access its in-house sustainability expertise, mobilisation and eco equipment deployment, to overcome barriers in eco tool adoption.

The Intelligence service further positions Speedy Hire as a pioneer in sustainable hire services, helping the construction industry meet increasing regulatory, investor, and community expectations.

Matthew Pygott, Head of Net Zero at Speedy Hire, commented:

“Our Carbon Intelligence Service doesn’t just mitigate our value chain emissions, it completely redefines what Speedy Hire can deliver in sustainability. Through our processes, we’re unlocking new ways of working, encouraging collaboration, and generating revenue through low-carbon equipment. Carbon Intelligence represents a new approach for the hire sector, and at Speedy Hire we’re proud to be at the forefront of the climate transition within the industry.”

In preparation for the launch, Speedy Hire have collaborated and tested the new Service with a small number of their largest national customers with impactful results.

Fiona Bussell, Sustainability and Assurance Manager at AmcoGiffen commented:

“AmcoGiffen is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040 for all Scope 1 and 2 emissions and for Scope 3 emissions under our direct control. Speedy Hire, one of our strategic suppliers, is proactively driving the carbon agenda and have dedicated resources to help us tackle part of our Scope 3 emissions. Their implementation of PAS 2080 is the first we’ve seen in the hire sector, and we are benefitting directly via Speedy Hire’s Contract Carbon Management Plan. Initiatives such as a small tool swap out from traditional fossil fuel versions to cordless, battery-powered alternatives, access to emissions data monitoring and the deployment of depot-based hire shops (GPods) are all helping to further reduce our carbon emissions.”

This new service advances Speedy Hire’s comprehensive Carbon Reporting Tool, found on the MySpeedy App, and supports its ‘Decade to Deliver’ sustainability strategy, whereby Speedy Hire has committed to be Net Zero by 2040 with scope 1,2 and 3 near term targets in 2030.

This launch comes off the back of Speedy Hire’s launch of its first Green Claims Policy and signatory to the Anti Greenwashing Charter.
