Around 70% of board directors feel their board is ineffective at integrating sustainability into governance and strategy building, according to the latest BCG-INSEAD Survey.[1] Speedy Hire’s latest appointments mark its continued commitment to ensuring it places ESG at the heart of its strategy as it works towards its ambitious range of environmental and social impact targets.
Amelia Woodley brings almost 20 years of experience to the board, having worked with Speedy Hire for two years and having previously held senior roles at South Western Railway, Network Rail and BAE systems. Amelia’s experience in delivering award-winning sustainability programmes will help Speedy Hire continue to drive down carbon emissions and enhance social value across the business and its wider supply chain.
Commenting on her appointment, Amelia Woodley said:
"I am delighted to become the board’s first ESG Director. Since joining Speedy the support and enthusiasm for ESG has been perceptible throughout the whole organisation: within leadership, at the board level, in the way everyone within the company embraces the ESG agenda. This development echoes Speedy’s drive to do better and be better and will help us to continue to reach our goals.”
Andy Johnson brings over 20 years of experience in HSSEQ to the board, following his long-standing history with Speedy Hire and previous senior positions in Oil & Gas in the Middle East. Andy also has extensive experience in warehousing, logistics and the utilities and construction sectors. As an associate of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and a chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), his expertise continues to strengthen Speedy’s commitment to innovation in safety and health.
Andy Johnson, HSSEQ Director at Speedy, said:
"I am excited to be part of this ambitious Executive Board helping Speedy deliver safe and sustainable operations and look forward to working directly with my colleagues to achieve our goals."
Speedy Hire’s latest board appointments continue its series of firsts as it leads the way in ESG for the hire sector. Amongst other milestones, Speedy Hire was the first hire company to commit to science-based net-zero targets, the first to launch a carbon calculator and will hold the sectors first net-zero event in September to share its learnings with other businesses and help the industry work together to achieve a better future.
Dan Evans, Speedy’s Chief Executive and board member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, adds:
“Responsibility and sustainability have always been at the heart of everything we do at Speedy. We are delighted to welcome Amelia and Andy to the executive board as we continue to drive positive change for our customers, our business and our suppliers.”
