Powering the Green Army: Speedy Hire and Babcock’s Carbon-Free Kick-Off
5 March 2025
Speedy Hire, the UK's leading tools and equipment hire services company, has joined forces with Babcock to support Argyle Community Trust in its mission to reduce carbon emissions in Plymouth. This collaboration reflects the companies' shared commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
A shining example of this partnership is the Pilgrim Pizza Van, a project designed to bring people together by serving fresh, affordable, oven-baked pizza and beverages in the Plymouth area. Beyond its culinary offerings, the van doubles as a mobile classroom, teaching health, nutrition, and budget-friendly cooking.
It also serves as a drop-off point for food donations, supporting local food banks. Since its inception, Speedy Hire has provided the van with 10kVA and 6kVA generators at no cost, enabling it to operate during match day fan zones and community events. This support has saved the Trust over £7,000 and enabled the van to extend its reach to those most in need.

“Speedy Hire generators provided free of charge have allowed us to extend our charity’s reach more effectively,” said Dwain Morgan, Head of Business Development at Argyle Community Trust. “Their donation has powered the Pilgrim Pizza Van, helping us serve Argyle fans on match days and reach communities facing food insecurity. Speedy Hire has also sponsored events like last year’s Christmas party for children experiencing poverty. We are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.”
In line with its sustainability goals, Speedy Hire recently introduced a battery storage unit to the fan zone, allowing it to operate entirely on renewable energy.
“Seeing the fan zone transition to a carbon-free, renewable energy solution is a fantastic achievement,” said Lee Wood, Plymouth Depot Manager at Speedy Hire. “Providing the tools and equipment to power initiatives like the Pilgrim Pizza Van perfectly aligns with our commitment to sustainability and social value. We’re incredibly proud to make a real difference in our local community.”

This initiative is part of Speedy Hire’s broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments. In FY24, the company delivered £29 million in social value through initiatives including employing apprentices and graduates, delivering skills and training courses, and supporting over 80 charities.
