Speedy Hire and Balfour Beatty plc Join Forces on Industry-First Graduate Exchange Programme

As a leading tools, equipment, and plant hire provider, we operate in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment. While our internal graduate scheme provides strong functional exposure, we recognised an opportunity to:

• Expand graduates’ understanding of large-scale infrastructure delivery
• Strengthen cross-organisational collaboration
• Develop commercially aware professionals with end-to-end industry insight

Traditional programmes can be siloed. We wanted to go further.

In partnership with Balfour Beatty, we introduced a structured graduate exchange, enabling participants to gain first-hand experience within each other’s organisations.

Key elements included:

• Cross-company placements: Speedy graduates embedded within Balfour Beatty teams to understand project delivery from a contractor perspective.
• Operational insight: Exposure to major infrastructure projects, site management, and stakeholder coordination.
• Knowledge sharing: Graduates brought new perspectives back into Speedy, enhancing internal processes and collaboration with customers.

This exchange strengthened not only individual capability, but also organisational alignment between supplier and contractor.
