| SPEEDY LAUNCHES INTO GREEN SPACE |
Speedy Space, the accommodation division of Speedy Hire, has launched a new environmentally friendly on-site unit which reduces the carbon footprint of traditional short-term accommodation by over 50 per cent. |

The new ENIVIRO-CABIN - developed in partnership with Speedy customer Simons Construction, Ultra Secure, and environmental specialist Frankham Consultancy - has been designed to the same environmental performance targets as a permanent commercial building, thereby significantly reducing energy costs for end users.
The units, which can be double stacked, incorporate improved heating and insulation, double glazing, improved construction detail and energy efficient lighting, while water usage reduction solutions have been fitted to toilet units.
Simons Construction, part of the £260m turnover Simons Group, will take delivery of the first 22 units later this month at its £40m Marriotts Close development in Witney where a new retail, leisure and residential quarter is being created, including a new cinema and 185 new homes.
Tom Gleeson, business excellence director for Speedy Space, said: "With environmental issues climbing higher up the agenda for businesses, the energy performance of on-site accommodation is a growing concern.
"But while the ENVIRO-CABIN can clearly help businesses demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, it also dramatically reduces operating costs of on-site temporary accommodation. With energy bills predicted to rise sharply in 2008, it makes sound commercial sense.
"This multi disciplinary joint venture demonstrates Speedy's ability to lead market development and deliver common goals for its customers and suppliers alike."
Rosi Fieldson, senior project architect for Simons Design, said: "We are very keen to cut the amount of carbon we are producing, and ensuring our on-site accommodation is environmentally friendly is part of a wider effort to understand and control how much carbon we are causing across our construction projects.
|
"Clearly on-site accommodation is not the most energy consuming aspect of a construction site, but it is something we have direct control over and should therefore ensure is as energy efficient as possible."

Speedy Hire announces the acquisition of the Caledonian Safemaker hire business. Caledonian Safemaker hires temporary accommodation to customers in construction and industry from 5 UK depots and has a rental fleet of approximately 4,700 units.
Total consideration will be £13.7 million to acquire the shares and settle outstanding debt. In the year ended 31 March 2005, Caledonian Safemaker generated an EBIT of £1.5 million and an EBITDA of £2.6 million from gross assets of approximately £12.5 million. Until recently, Caledonian Safemaker was a trading division of Caledonian Building Systems Limited, which hived out the business and assets of Caledonian Safemaker into a newly formed company prior to the acquisition. Following the acquisition, the Caledonian Safemaker depots will be incorporated into Speedy Hire’s existing accommodation hire business, Speedy Space Ltd, increasing the geographical coverage of the network and enhancing access to key geographical regions.
Speedy Hire also announces that it has strengthened its association with Mowlem plc (“Mowlem”) through the acquisition of their accommodation hire and survey equipment hire assets for a cash consideration of £5.1 million. The accommodation hire fleet comprises approximately 1,000 units. Following completion of the transaction Speedy Hire has entered into a five year exclusive supply agreement to provide the hire of temporary accommodation and a three year exclusive supply agreement to provide the hire of survey equipment to Mowlem. The existing trading agreement (consisting of other Speedy Hire products) which was due to expire on 31 December 2006 has also been extended to 31 December 2008.
Steve Corcoran, Chief Executive said “We are very pleased to have acquired two well invested and maintained accommodation fleets which will further enhance our ability to provide a high quality service to our customers. Both the Mowlem and Caledonian Safemaker hire operations will integrate easily into our existing Speedy Space business.
