Speedy Hire Product Innovation Awards - 2010

The award scheme is part of the Speedy's overall sustainability strategy spearheaded by the industry leading Getting Greener from Ground Up programme and the GO Initiative announced in December 2009.

The GO Initiative (GO for Green Option), includes a comprehensive range of products that offer proven environmental benefits and have been independently assessed for Speedy by ERM, world leading environmental consultants.

The assessment process measures the energy efficiency and carbon footprint of a product and compares it with a typical alternative to highlight the energy and carbon savings. This information will be published in catalogues and product information to make it easy for customers to choose the Green Option.

The Judging Panel

Entries will be judged by a team of senior executives from Speedy's supply chain, marketing, sustainability and customer excellence teams. From entries received, the panel will create a short list of potential winners and these entries will be go forward to a second round of judging which will include an independent representative from ERM, a leading environmental consultancy.

What the judges are looking for

The Award has been created to recognise 'innovation' in developing products or systems that demonstrably reduce operating cost, carbon emissions and/or overall environmental impact. It may be an entirely new product idea or a clever adaptation of an existing product.

The judges will be particularly interested in ideas that reduce energy or fuel consumption, waste, water consumption or pollution.

Ideas that improve waste management, use recycled materials or increase recycling opportunities would also be particularly welcome as would ideas that can demonstrate ethical improvements in product or component manufacture or sourcing.

Entries will only be accepted via completion of a Speedy Product Innovation Award entry form which can be downloaded here.

The entry form requires a description of the product, its performance and its environmental benefits versus a typical alternative. Evidence to support the claim will also be required together with a photograph or drawing where appropriate.
